Mooie Cafe & Bar – Reviewed

img_20171010_193759-011904538442.jpegThis place is an Oasis for this area. Mooie Cafe & Bar a newly opened cafe at Bhumkar Chowk right next to New Poona Bakery. Mooie is a Dutch word for the Beautiful, Pleasant or Nice.

The owner of this cafe is same as the owner of NPB. Mooie Cafe dream come true project for him and very close to his heart as well he is passionate about it. The food menu is designed and prepared under the consultancy of Star Chef Shailendra Kekade.

The B Team was invited for the tasting some of their signature dishes.

We Started the evening with a round of Mocktails Pina Colada and Lemongrass Mojito. (They soon gonna launch the bar menu with Wine and Beer)

Smooth Mushrooms: It goes as per the name. Smooth and Juicy served with mascapone cheese, with a black pepper and garlic marination and drizzled with Balsamic. All the flavors were perfectly blending the Mushrooms.

Silken Tofu and Broccoli: I expected the Tofu being soft but it disappointed my expectations. The Tofu was too chewy, so left the dish after the first bite.

Tomato Red Pizza: Basically the pizza was served half n half, the other half was Bianco Pizza.
The thin crisp crust was topped with sun dried tomatoes, roma tomatoes, Olives along with shredded cheese on top. It was sour and cheesy in taste.

Harissa Paneer Steak: Nice thick round slice Paneer with the colourful sides gave this a appetising feel when placed on the table. The sides of spaghetti zucchini and assorted vegetables. Basically Harissa has two variants Red and Green Harissa. This was the Green Harissa marination on the paneer. Paneer had the smoky flavours along with the spiciness of paste.

We were served,
Baked New York Cheesecake, Double Chocolate Brownie, Tutti Frutti Trifle Pudding, & Chocolate Cherry Sachertorte: The much liked and slurped off the plate among them was the Baked NY Cheesecake, it was finished within seconds actually! Brownie was bit hard to scoop with ice cream. Tutti Frutti Trifle would be loved by the kids as it had lot of cream and Tutti Frutti along with jelly. Chocolate Cherry Sachertorte, as I have had the original Sachertorte in Vienna where this dessert is originated from, this was not even close to that.

Overall it was a mix review of the place and the food they serve.

Tales & Spirits – Martini Fest – Reviewed

Tales and Sprits has never disappointed me with their food and innovative Cocktails. Food is really outstanding and it’s a vegetarian restaurant. I have tried almost every thing on the menu, on my multiple visits with friends and family.

Recent ongoing Martini fest gives me a one more reason to visit.

The B Team was invited for tasting of their signature Martini and Food.

Martini’s we tried :

Ferrero Rocher Martini – It had Vodka, crushed black pepper, nutella, rice Krispies with a Ferrero Rocher Chocolate Ball on the rim. Mixed flavours of Sweet with a hint black pepper gave unique taste to it.

Espresso – Vodka, espresso, simple syrup. Strong flavor of Coffee simply compliment the Vodka presence. Nice bitter taste with after flavor of Vodka made this drink of the night.

James Bond Series 007 – Vodka, sweet and sour, green olives (stirred not shaken). It was one of the strongest Martini of the lot. Warmth would be felt with every sip.

Cotton Candy Swirl – Vodka, strawberry crush, pineapple liquid, cotton candy, lime. This had dramatic effects in the preparation, soft cotton candy was placed and Vodka was poured out which melted and eventually and gave a sweetened after taste.

Dragon Tales – Vodka, jalapeno, dragon fruit, farm basil and lime juice. Next strongest Martini with little different taste from the rest due to the basil and Dragon Fruit.

T&S Dirty Martini – Gin, olive juice, lime juice. This is the signature Martini from T&S with a twist of lime along with Gin mixed with Olive brine.

The Mr Freeze – Vodka, grenade, raspberry eye balls, sweet and sour.

Porn Star Martini – Vodka, orange liqueur, passion fruit, lime, golden petal dust.

Broken Heart Blues – Vodka, gin, lime juice, blue curacao, edible purple petal dust.

Food :

Farmers Snacks:
Jalapeños & Mozzarella Cigars: This is one of the best Mozzarella Cigars I have ever tasted. Crispy cover with oozing Cheese within. Served with Pink pony dip.

Eadamame Gyōzas: This was bit dry as per my palate with less stuffing and flavourful.

Shitake Bok Choy Gyōza: Shitake are basically an edible mushroom native to East Asia, which is cultivated and consumed in many Asian countries. It is considered a medicinal mushroom in some forms of traditional medicine. This was nice an juicey compared to the earlier one with strong flavor of Garlic and Ginger.

Balsamic Mushroom Skewers: Nice big Juicey Mushroom grilled to perfection with chimmichurri which is an uncooked sauce used for grilled meat; it comes in a green version (chimichurri verde) and a red version (chimichurri rojo) and seems to come from Uruguayan cuisine. It is made of finely chopped parsley, minced garlic, vegetable oil, oregano, and white vinegar. In Uruguay, the dominant flavoring is parsley, garlic, red pepper flakes, and fresh oregano.

Soup:
Wine Cheese Popcorn Soup: This an unique and signature soup from T&S. It’s nice, thick and warm popcorn flavour soup with wine cheese infused. It is served with Bucket of crunchy popcorn to add more flavour to it.

Spa Salad: Very nicely presented in an half cut Pineapple stuffed with mixed leaves, Brussels sprouts, Broccoli, apple, Pineapple tossed in Mustard sauce, Coconut oil and chilly Dressing. Overall an healthy affair.

T&S Fillers:

Thai Jungle Curry: One of the Best Thai Curry in the town. I bet you won’t regret this. Getting the perfect consistency without losing or overpowering other flavors is the most important thing while preparing Thai Curry, and T&S achieves it ease.

Mascaporne Cream Cheese Pizza: Thin crust pizza with toppings like Tomato Concasse, Marinated peppers, Zucchini, farm fresh onions, spiced up with Paprika Flakes. Pizza retains its crispiness till the last bite.

Malai Paneer Balchao: This was absolutely an outstanding dish. Soft Paneer chunks cooked in fiery Goan Vegetarian pickle paste served with Buttered Buns. Perfect spice levels with nice red in colour might increase your appetite.

T&S Biscuit Bhakri: A Rajasthani fusion preparation, Cumin scented Crisp Bhakari served with mashed Potato – Onion Subji along with spicy Lasooni Thecha.

Desserts:

Citrus and Berry Parfait: One of the fancy dessert from T&S. Mandarin, white chocolate berry parfait covered with chocolate shell & it is flambéed.

Baklava & Butterscotch: T&S is the only place where authentic Baklava served with Butterscotch Ice-Cream is served. The first look itself is drooling.

But I say “Anything is good if it made in Indigo Deli”

Launched in 2005, Indigo Delicatessen has defined the quintessential Deli experience in India over the years. With accolades and awards, and many a ‘firsts’ along the way, the Deli developed a tradition of delighting guests and building a patronage. It originates from the house of deGustibus Hospitality, the pioneering company that gave shape to the iconic Indigo Restaurant in Mumbai and had re-written the rules of luxury dining in India in the early 2000’s.
Indigo Deli is an all-day café that offers its guests a comfortable and friendly atmosphere with an extensive and absolutely scrumptious menu consisting of contemporary Western Comfort food, cooked using an array of techniques and practices – mostly European and American. The fare can be best described as honest, unpretentious, good food, cooked from the heart with local sustainable produce.

Each Deli is unique, with a certain central focus that defines the space. Yet, there are several aspects across the Delis that bind them. The colours and tones used within each of the Delis lends to a sense of comfort and warmth within the space and adds to the overall experience. This is mimicked by the friendly and attentive service received during the course of every dining experience.

After winning the hearts by opening its flagship outlet in Pune at Phoenix Marketcity Mall, They have opened their second outlet’s door at Koregaon Park. I was invited for the Food tasting of this outlet. The menu remains the same but, the love they spread while serving their scrumptious food has already taken the foodies to the next level.

We started the Evening with a little chat with the Chef Tushar and we also discussed the Positive vibe this place has. The place is done so well, It has a feel of old English cafe on a busy streets of London, With wide clear windows and the table attached to each which gives a glimpse of the road. It has up class high head leather sofas with a lot of head room overall makes this place a unique for a Sunday Morning Breakfast.

The evening was set with specially curated menu by the chef himself, and he knows how to keep the patrons happy.
Amuse Bouche

Amuse Bouche: It was Potato & Leek with Chive Sour Cream and the Golden Fried Leeks. This was warm and soothing served in a Cup.
Salad @ Indigo Deli

Salad: This was a freshness overloaded salad with Kale, Fennel, Apple Batons added the little sweetness, Dried Cranberries this added sourness, Feta & Candied Pecan nut for the crunchiness. Perfect way to start your dinner.

Wafer Thin Pizza @ Indigo DeliWafer Thin Pizza @ Indigo Deli

Pizza: 3 Pepper & 3 Cheese Pizza: IndioDeli is the only place where you get the wafer thin crust, I really mean wafer thin crust here!! Perfectly baked without spoiling the crust. The 3 Cheese were cheddar, scamorza and mozzarella and 3 Peppers were Red, Yellow and Bhavnagari peppers. Combination of all six gave a perfect level of spice and good amount of cheese to make this a complete pizza.
Wafer Thin Pizza @ Indigo Deli

SDT Olives and Capers: Little sour with little juice in the Sun Dried Tomatoes(SDT) along with Black olives and Capers, these are basically the edible flower buds (capers), often used as a seasoning, and the fruit (caper berries), both of which are usually consumed pickled as well. The SDT are homemade to get the perfect quality of the tomato.

Spinach & Jerusalem artichoke Ravioli: Jerusalem Artichoke is also called sunroot, sunchoke, earth apple, or topinambour. Ravioli was served with blistered cheery tomato, Crispy basil and bell pepper puree. These Ravioli were very delicate yet they were holding the stuffing very well.
Lemongrass Kaffir Lime Steamed Rawas with Cilantro- Black Olive Gnocchi Sauteed shitake and charred corn

Lemongrass Kaffir Lime Steamed Rawas with Cilantro- Black Olive Gnocchi Sauteed shitake and charred corn: As Chef wanted me to try the vegetarian version of this so with his magical cooking skills he took off the Steamed Rawas and made me a Veggi version. This dish was highly appreciated on the table by the non-vegetarians and it was swiped off within minutes.

Desserts: Indigo Deli offers excellent varieties of desserts including multiple options of homemade ice-creams. We tried almost all the Desserts including Apple Pie, Chocolate layered Almond Cake, Chocolate Mud Cake and Blueberry Cheese Cake. All were just awesome.

White Owl Brewery -Beer Tasting Review


White Owl Brewery: 

Mumbai-based White Owl Brewery is set to launch its Award-Winning Craft Beer in Bottles to significantly expand the availability of its handcrafted brews across the country.  This move will complement White Owl Brewery’s existing footprint in Maharashtra.  The Company currently distributes up to 8 varieties of its craft beer – On Tap and more recently in India’s first-ever Kegger (a 5-Litre Portable Keg) – at over 70 renowned restaurants & bars across Mumbai & Pune.

I was invited for the beer tasting at Raasta café Baner.

Beers for tasting:
Spark – Delicate, refreshing & citrusy Belgian Wit

Diablo – Crisp, roasty Irish Red Ale

Ace – French Apple Cider

My personal liking goes for Diablo: Strong enough to keep the taste tingling for a long time on the taste buds. Perfect for any given occasion with yummy bar bites from Raasta Cafe.

Second liking would go for the Spark: As it had some hints of citrus which gave the beer a refreshing taste. It’s just the next big thing on the menu.

The last resort would be Ace an delicate French apple Cider. Although I am not much fan of ciders, light on the taste. This can go with nice hot and spicy or Cheesy Bar bites.

Along with Beers I also tried some Bar Bites from the Menu.

Nachos: Crispy Corn Nachos with Tomato salsa, Beans and Homemade Cheese Sauce. Perfectly goes with Diablo Beer.

Chilly Tamarind Grilled Paneer Kebab: Sweet and Tangy Paneer Cubes grilled in an Indian Clay Oven. Goes well with Spark Beer.

Contadina Pizza: Fresh Tomato Sauce with Good amount of Mozzarella, Jalapeno, Finely cut mushrooms, Olives, Broccoli flowerets, and Sun dries Tomatoes. Perfect for the Ace Beer.

Oregano -Restaurant Review

Oregano is one of the restaurant at Ambience hotel Model colony which serves pure Veg Italian Cuisine.

Apart from their regular menu they also have an option of Italian Set Buffet system with limited desserts option, but every thing is served on the table you don’t have to run around.

They serve the Indian cuisine as well from the Aroma Restaurant which is an rooftop restaurant. So it’s a kind of a package deal.

We opted for the set menu which has the following:

Soups: Two variants: Minestrone- perfect combination of fresh seasonal vegetables, Basil, Pasta and Parmesan Cheese in hot and tangy Tomato Broth.

Cream Of Broccoli: Thick and fresh broccoli with added cream which gave creamer and soothing taste to it.

Salads: Italian Salad: Fresh Lettuce, Apple, Diced Carrots, Cucumber, Pineapple chunks, for the spice some freshly cut bell peppers, dressed with Honey Dijon’s Mustard. Overall a healthy package. #Unlimitedservings

Starters: Bruschetta Al Pomodoro: Simple and basic style of serving, French Baguette topped with fresh Tomato, Basil, drizzled olive oil, garlic and feta cheese. #Unlimitedservings

Cajun Spiced Potato: Potato Wedges, flavoured with rosemary tossed in Cajun sauce, bit on the oiler side but taste wise it’s good. #Unlimitedservings

Pizza: it’s a kind of DIY pizza with any number of toppings on the 10′ thin crust, they good option to choose from the list of toppings. You can request them to drizzle less olive oil with toppings, the pizza which was served to us had this issue which was informed to the courteous manager who was ready to change it immediately. Crust wise it was perfect not over or under baked. #Unlimitedservings

Pasta: Again on the Similar lines of Pizza, this was DIY or create your own pasta, with the options of Basic, Pink, Arrabbiata, Alfredo, and Basil Pesto sauce. Along with your voice of pasta and the vegetables to add on. We opted for the penne in pink sauce with some fresh veggies. Nice and cheesy.

Dessert: Chocolate Mousse: Smooth and served with chocolate chips. Nice and perfect in taste not too sweet not to bland. #LimitedServing.

Pannacotta (STRAWBERRY): Served in a cup so couldn’t figure out how wobbly it was was but while taking the scoop it was light and smooth enough. Taste wise it was not that mouth melting but ok types.
Strawberry part was just the top layer and again it was just the Strawberry flavour jelly which was added to it while setting up the Pannacotta.

Overall:

Food: It was good although apart from some if and buts but definitely worth a try.

Service: Pretty quick no issues.

Staff: Very polite and courteous.

Ambience: Perfect for the family and group. Comfortable sitting area, clean ambience.

Value for money: very reasonable. The above menu was 550/- ++ which comes to 595/- per person. It’s a worth a deal.

Rosso Bianco- Review

This place was on my wish list for quiet some time, Luckily A day before I saw post on FB on the #PEO #Wednesday Meetup, immediately reserved my seat. I saw I was on the waiting list but evening, my seat was confirmed.

Reached there on time 8pm, Looking at the place I was surprised although small place but much talked and appreciated about the food and the service in all the forums.
As the we Settled down for the evening, introduced ourself (as it was not needed being all foodie’s !!! ) and the Starters were placed on the table.
Starters : Panner Skewers: Mouth melting Panner on the skewers along with Capsicum and nicely marinated.
Chilli Cheese Toast: Freshly baked Panini bread with nice colourful toppings of Capsicum, Green chilly, onion served with a dip.
Then comes the BIG Pizza OMG 24′ Pizza fully loaded with all the toppings fresh and hot, covers the whole table at a time, and needed stomach to finish this all…. we were almost 10 of us and it was much easier to finish this whole thing….
In between we were discussing about the legendary outlets in and around Pune and the their little secrets of success, while we were sipping some coolers like Lemon Ice tea, Peach Ice tea, Lemonade, Blue Lagoon, Currant Cooler…. 
We also tried our spoons on some other dishes like Pesto Veg, Pink Sauce Veg, and Lasagne Al Forno, Everything was served hot and it was really excellent.
And the discussion shifted to the weirdest dishes served around the world!!! OMG that Monkey brain dish was hell…
Lastly we ordered for the Expresso Coffee Shots to end the Foodful journey of this meetup.
Overall….
Food: Amazingly awesome.
Service: Quick and Efficient staff.
Staff: Nice and happy to serve.
Ambience: Small but nicely setup.
Value for Money: Absolutely worth….
Parking: At times it might be an issue due to busy main road.
